1+1 Alaska 2016 Survey »

What is the 1+1 Alaska Survey?

The 1+1 Alaska Survey is a simple tool to help your business compete for a talented workforce in a tight marketplace. Inclusion is a visible way to attract and retain savvy employees who want to work for companies that match their values, including diversity. Alaska businesses are evolving in their recognition of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) inclusion in the workplace. The 1+1 Survey rates your business based on workplace policies, benefits, and community engagement.

How your business profits from participating

Stay Competitive. Inclusion is the key to growth in today’s fiercely competitive marketplace. Organizations and businesses that seek global market relevancy must include LGBT employees within their diversity management policies and practices.

Grow the Bottom Line.  According to the Small Business Majority, 86% of the small business owners who adopted nondiscrimination policies to protect LGBT workers report that nondiscrimination policies cost them “nothing or next to nothing.”

Improve Workforce Effectiveness. Supportive workplace policies and practices make it more cost effective to recruit, retain, and motivate productive employees. 91% of Fortune 500 companies prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation. 61% prohibit discrimination based on gender identity.

Increase Employee Job Commitment. According to the Williams Institute, “LGBT-supportive policies and workplace climates are linked to greater job commitment, improved workplace relationships, increased job satisfaction, and improved health outcomes among LGBT employees.”

Access Untapped Markets. The purchasing power of the U.S. LGBT population was estimated at $830 billion per year in 2013 (Witeck-Combs Communications). The LGBT community and their allies are a particularly loyal, reliable customer base.
